Ellie was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphatic Leukemia) Philly-Like Able-arm - a very rare from of Leukemia on May 4th 2023. To date, Ellie has gone through over 11 months of strenuous, intense treatment. She needed countless units of blood and platelets, numerous tests and procedures and encountered a PICU stay where she faced liver dysfunction without even flinching. Her hospital stays have totaled over 70 days! All the while battling, Ellie has remained in 8th grade (via zoom) completing all her assignments and staying at the top of her class! Beyond being an excellent student, Ellie has developed a passion for cooking, baking and reading. She enjoys cooking for her family, friends and hospital staff (who have become family), as well as finding a nice comfy corner for one of the numerous book series she has read throughout her treatment. Ellie Kathleen Gerwe is strong, she is amazing and she is the greatest warrior. Ellie has decided to continue to always smile and show the world there is no challenge or adversity that you cannot overcome. Ellie is currently in remission and now into maintenance chemo! She lives her life with the motto "Through adversity comes strength and courage and with Christ comes triumph!"
